Following the surge of Covid-19 cases in 2020 the France Football award was cancelled without any of the biggest players going home with the most coveted gong. With the return of the award slated for December Europe’s finest players across the world are now prepping up for arguably the biggest individual prize in football.

With both the European Championship and Copa America done and dusted, it’s now looking more clearer on where the pendulum would swing as the likes of Messi and Jorginho had a brilliant campaign for both club and country.

Should Jorginho go on to win the ballon d’Or he would be the first Italian to do so since Fabio Cannavaro in 2006 and the third since Roberto Baggio won it in 1993. With his champions league and euro triumph the midfielder is now tip as one of the genuine contender for the gong following his amazing performances for his country and club.

The Chelsea midfielder didn’t really had a brilliant first half campaign under former manager, but fortunately for him the appointment of Thomas Tuchel turnaround his form and since then he hasn’t look back as he went on to form a brilliant partnership with Kante which won them the Champions League.

Jorginho continue his brilliant form where he left it with the Blues at the European Championship with the Azzurri’s churning out fantastic performances in all of Italy’s matches and hewas quite instrumental in Italy winning the trophy against England at the Wembley stadium.

Robert Lewandoski – (Poland/Bayern Munich)

The Polish forward was meant to win the 2020 edition having won everything winnable in Europe, but unfortunately he couldn’t due to the cancellation of the award due to COVID-19. Lewandoski is no doubt one of the genuine contender simply because of the impressive performance he had last season with Die Roten going on to break Gerd Muller’s record to become Bayern Munich’s highest goal-scorer.

Poland’s performance at the Euro Championship might be a big dent on his chances of winning the award but then we cannot shy away from his contributions for the Bavarian side last season as such he deserve to be on these list and he might go on to make it to the podium.

N’Golo Kante – (France/Chelsea)

Like Jorginho, like Kante the Frenchman had an underwhelming first half of the season with the Blues featuring sparingly for Frank Lampard side due to injury. Following the exit of the manager Thomas Tuchel took up the reign at Stamford Bridge and since then the former Leicester City midfield maestro has been brilliant.

After Chelsea won the champions league with Kante winning back to back man of the match award in the knockout stages the buzz about him been a contender for Ballon d’Or award started flying around in the media and amongst fans.

Had it been Les Blues had a commendable Euro 2020 winning the gong would have been a legitimate conservation for Kante however been on the podium won’t be bed for the indefatigable midfielder base on the impressive season he had with the London club.

Kylian Mbappe – (France/Paris Saint Germain)

Kylian Mbappe finished the 2020-21 campaign with 29 goals and seven assists in Ligue 1 but couldn’t help France scale through the hurdle of Switzerland in the knockout stages of the Euro 2020 with his penalty miss.

Winning the 2021 ballon d’Or award would definitely skyrocket the former Monaco’s forward stock in the market while he would also be in the list of French player that has won the most coveted award like Zinedine Zidane and Michel Platini.

The award ceremony is slated for December with that there’s still more time for every of the players on the list to keep up with their respective performances at the highest level as we edge closer to the main date.
