Goalkeepers position is arguably the most important and unique role in a football team, and despite the highly difficult skill demands of goalkeeping it’s very important for such goalie to be up and running while defending it’s team.

In that sense, it’s almost impossible for a team to challenge for titles without a reliable goalkeeper in between the stick, and over the past two decades they’ve been lot of quality goalkeepers who have played the game.

So as a professional goalkeeper, one important thing that makes such goalkeeper stand out amongst other is confidence, because it’s one very important factor that helps goalie standout in winning games for his team.

Having said that, winning without conceding also give lot of confidence to goalkeepers. So today on Sportyleagues, we’ll chronicle goalkeepers who have built confidence with their clean sheets in 2020-21

Emiliano Martinez – (Aston Villa, 8 Clean Sheets)

The Argentine goalkeeper has been quite impressive since he joined Villa, in a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £20m, having failed to sign a contract extension with Arsenal in his search for more playing time. Martinez’s performances so far with Villa has seen him kept 8 clean sheets.

Should the former Gunners goalie keep up with the form and most importantly, keep more clean sheets he may end up winning the best goalkeeper at the end of season.

Alex McCarthy – (Southampton, 7 Clean Sheets)

McCarthy is one of the Premier League’s current finest with his performances and clean sheets so far. The Englishman has been quite decent for the Saints in this season in between the stick with 7 clean sheets.

This season McCarthy has been a mainstay in Southampton’s team, and as a matter of fact he’s been one of Hassenhult go to man in terms of protecting the team from conceding.

Ederson Moares – (Manchester City, 7 Clean Sheets)

The City and Brazilian shot stopper has become a renowned goalkeeper for his distribution and footwork since arriving at the Etihad Stadium. This season Ederson has shown his one of the best goalie in the English league, with his performances that cumulated into 7 clean sheets for Pep Guardiola led side.

In City’s triumph against Chelsea, the Brazilian wasn’t in goal which means he still keeps his clean slate intact, however it’s left to be seen how long he would be able to keep the clean sheets in the league for City.

Edouard Mendy – (Chelsea, 6 Clean Sheets)

The Senegalese shot stopper has been in brilliant form for Chelsea since joining in the summer transfer window, although the team has failed to win in the league in the last three to four matches. However the former Rennes goalkeeper still shone out impressive performances.

Mendy has thoroughly improved Chelsea’s backline, having displaced the underperforming Kepa Arrizabalaga from the first team. So far in this season, he has also kept 6 clean sheets alongside Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier and Nick Pope of Burnley.

Jan Oblak – (Atletico Madrid, 10 Clean Sheets)

Elsewhere in LaLiga, the Slovenia shot stopper his no doubt one of the best goalie in the league, and he has continually shone out impressive performances season in, season out for Los Rojiblancos.

Oblak has appeared in 15 matches this season in LaLiga, playing a total of 1350 mintues, with the clean sheets ratio of 67%, which means he has kept 10 in 15 matches for Diego Simeone side.

Thibaut Courtois – (Real Madrid, 7 Clean Sheets)

The Belgian goalkeeper won the Zamora Award last season, and with 7 clean sheets so far this season, it shows he wants to compete again with the likes of Oblak and Ter Stegen in winning this season Zamora Award. Courtois is still very much one of the finest shot stopper in the business with Los Merengues.

The Belgian has appeared in 17 matches this season in LaLiga, playing a total of 1530 minutes, and his clean sheets ratio is currently at 41%. With him in between the stick for Los Blancos, the Zinedine Zidane led side can be rest assured of his quality in protecting the team.

Gianluigi Donnarumma – (AC Milan, 5 Clean Sheets)

Donnarumma’s raise into one of the most sought after goalkeepers in world football, is a testament to how brilliant he’s been for the Rossonerri since he burst to the scene at age 16. The Italian goalkeeper was brought into the Milan first team at 15, and went on to make his debut in 2015 at age 16.

Donnarumma has so far lived up to the billing of been the next Gigi Buffon, with his performances for the Azzurri and Milan. Now at 21 growing with experience and quality, he has appeared in 15 matches for Milan this season playing a total of 1350 minutes.

His clean sheets ratio is currently at 33%, which means the Italian has kept 5 clean sheets which ranks him among Europe’s best goalkeepers this season.
