Everything You Need To Know About Alphonso Davies.

Alphonso Boyle Davies was born on the 2nd of November in the year 2000 to Liberian parents in a refugee camp in Ghana named Buduburam. Davies is the fourth born of his parents, his father is named Debeah Davies while his mother is named Victoria Davies. Both parents originally lived in their native country Liberia’s capital Monrovia but they fled to Ghana during their country’s Second Civil War which forcibly moved a lot of people from the country at that time. In the year 2005 when Alphonso Davies was five years of age, he and his family eventually relocated to Edmonton in Canada and that was where he started his footballing career from. Two years after he moved into the country, he was offered Canadian citizenship and that was on the 6th of June 2017.

Youth Career

Alphonso Davies started playing football from a very tender age in Canada and now he is a UEFA Champions League winner aged 19. He started playing for his school team Edmonton Internationals, and Edmonton Strikers before he joined Whitecaps FC Academy in the United Soccer League at the age of 14 in 2015.
Whitecaps FC Academy is the academy of Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the United Soccer League. He signed a professional contract with the club on the 23rd of February, 2016. At the time of the signature, Davies became the youngest player to sign a contract in the United Soccer League aged 15 years and some months.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC

After playing for the Whitecaps FC youth team, he was given a short contract to participate in the 2016 Canadian Championship. On the 15th of July 2016, he signed his first-team contract, a two-year contract deal with an option for further two seasons. He was the youngest active player in the Major Soccer League at the time. On the 16th of July 2016, he made his league debut for the club and he became the second-youngest player to play in the league after Freddy Adu. His first goal for Vancouver Whitecaps FC was against Sporting Kansas City in the 2016/17 CONCACAF Champions League. In his last game for the club against Portland Timbers, he scored the two goals in their 2-1 victory.

Bayern Munich

On the 25th of July, 2018, Vancouver Whitecaps FC revealed that they have accepted a multi-million-dollar transfer fee for Alphonso Davies to European and Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. He later joined the German club in January 2019 for a then MLS record fee of 22 million dollars with performance-related bonuses. Alphonso Davies then made his debut on the 12th of January, 2019 in the Telekom Cup Championship final against Borussia M’gladbach of which Bayern Munich won on penalties after a goalless draw and he later made his league debut on the 27th of the same month as a substitute for Kingsley Coman in a 3-1 victory over VfB Stuttgart.
The Canadian youngster became the youngest player since Roque Santa Cruz to score for Bayern Munich when he scored his first goal against Mainz 05 which Bayern demolished them 6-0. He is also the first Canadian to score for the German club.


On the international scene, Alphonso Davies who was born in Ghana by Liberian parents was eligible to play for the two countries but he decided to play for Canada where he got citizenship after leaving the refugee camp in Ghana. In October 2019, Alphonso Davies lead Canada to its first win over the USA in over 34 years. He has played 17 games for his country and has registered five goals to his name.
