Football skills is needed when playing a great football game. Football is a game played between two teams on a usually rectangular field having goalposts at each end and whose objective is to get the ball over a goal line, into a goal, or between goalposts by running, passing, or kicking.


Football is one of the best and prestigious sports in the world with approximately 250 million players and various clubs, like Arsenal, Barcelona, Juventus.

1.Passing –

Passing the ball is a key part of football. The purpose of passing is to keep the ball in your team’s possession by maneuvering it on the pitch between different players with the objective of advancing in the field and scoring a goal. The side foot (inside of the foot) provides the greatest accuracy for passing. But it is difficult to generate power and it is also easy for an opponent to see where you are intending to pass the ball.

There are different types of passes in football, which are as follows:

Push pass. It is also known as the direct pass, and it is the most common one between teammates

Long pass. It is used to move the ball across the field

Backward pass

Piercing pass

Wall pass

Chill-ball pass and so on.

It is the responsibility of the coach to enlighten their players about the result of successful passing and it’s left for players to train in other to improve their passing skills.

2.Shooting –

Shooting is the easiest and most common way of scoring a goal. It is done with the feet or head that is heading the ball which is the second most common way for scoring a goal. There are different types of shots and they are:

Straight shot

Toe shot

Outside shot


Heel shot

Curled shot and so on.

It is the responsibility for coaches to teach their players when and how to play a shot while players are left to train on how and when to play a shot in other to achieve success in football.

3.Dribbling –

In the world of football, dribbles are one of the most difficult skills to master and one of the most useful skills in attacking moves. A successful dribble past defenders legally can create opportunities for a goal to be scored.

Football dribbling requires players to master good footwork, maintain power over the shot at all times, and to rapidly move directions. This purpose is for football player’s dribbling skills to grow second in the world, so when the time arises they naturally do the necessary change for this specific place.

There are different types of dribbles which include,

Low Dribble. As its name implies, low dribble just means that you must keep the ball bouncing low nearest to the floor.

Speed Dribble.

Change-Of-Pace Dribble.

Crossover Dribble.

Hockey Dribble.

Reverse Dribble.

Half-Reverse Dribble.

4.Ball Control and Foot Work –

Ball control and footwork; these soccer drills will give players mastery of the ball. Ball control is the key part of football, it is being comfortable on the ball, instant control, ability to change feet, and move the ball wherever you want in order to shoot or make a pass, It is very important for attacking moves.

Getting and keeping the ball under control is an important skill a football player has to learn and in response to this, it’s essential for a coach to teach players of all positions to develop the ability to handle the ball with a constructive first touch.

5.Speed –

In the world of football, speed is the ability to move quickly across the ground or move feet rapidly either to pass or shoot. Movement speed requires good strength and power, but also too much bodyweight and air resistance can act to slow the person down.

Players need to have the speed to prevent the offensive players from making runs past them. The easiest way for teams to score is to slide through balls to wingers and strikers trying to get past the backline, so defenders need to also have the speed. So coaches are left with the responsibility to enlighten their players about the necessity of speed in their attack and defense respectively.


With all the above-stated skills in place, a football team would achieve maximum success in their attacks and defense.
