FWA Footballer Of The Year Award Winners Since 2010.

The FWA Footballers of the Year award winners in the past decade reveals the players who have been the best of the season in English football. The FWA stands for Football Writers’ Association. However, the FWA Footballer of the Year is awarded to the best player in English football at the end of a seasonal year. Furthermore, the award was presented for the first time after the end of the 1947/48 season and it is still in vogue. Additionally, the winner of the award will be announced after voting among the members of the Football Writers’ Association which consist of 400 football journalists based throughout England. Equally important, 65 players have won the award in total; the award has been presented on 73 occasions.

As revealed by Football Writers’ Association, the players highlighted below are the winners of the FWA Footballer of the Year award from 2009/10 to date. For that reason, read on to recall and be updated on the players who have won the FWA Footballers of the Year award in the past decade.

1. Wayne Rooney (2009/10) –

Wayne Rooney is among the best players of his generation. He is the all-time and record goal scorer of Manchester United and England national team. In addition, he is also the Premier League’s second top scorer of all time and holds the third-highest number of assists in the English Premier League. Obviously, the former Englishman was a very successful player. His excellent form earned him the 2010 FWA Footballer of the Year award.

2. Scott Parker (2010/11) –

Scott Parker was among the most outstanding players in the Premier League as of 2011. Despite West Ham’s poor form which saw them relegate, he was presented the FWA Footballer of the Year award. Currently, he is the manager of Premier League club Fulham, the London club was where he played last before retirement.

3. Robin Van Persie (2011/12) –

Robin Van Persie is classified among the best strikers of all time. Moreover, he won helped Manchester United to win the English Premier League title in his debut season which was the 2011/12 campaign. In addition to that, he won the Premier League Golden Boot for the second time consecutively after scoring 26 league goals. Finally, the retired Dutchman is a one-time winner of the FWA Footballer of the Year award.

4. Gareth Bale (2012/13) –

Gareth Bale is among the most successful players of all time, the Wales captain is also among the best players of his generation. Furthermore, Bale won the FWA Footballer of the Year award after an excellent showcase of his skills. Currently, the Welsh speedster plays for Tottenham Hotspur on loan from Real Madrid.

5. Luis Suarez (2013/14) –

Luis Suarez is among the greatest strikers of his generation and also listed among the best players in the world. In terms of trophies, he is among the most successful players in the world. However, he won the FWA Footballer of the Year award after showcasing his prolific traits. In addition to that, he won the Premier League Golden Boot and the European Golden Boot jointly with Cristiano Ronaldo. Suarez is the all-time leading goal scorer of Uruguay.

6. Eden Hazard (2014/15) –

Eden Hazard is highlighted among the best players in the world. He is a speedster, an expert dribbler, and a creative passer. Along with, he earned himself the FWA Footballer of the Year award after leading Chelsea to the EPL title triumph. Currently, he plays for the recent Spanish La Liga champions Real Madrid.

7. Jamie Vardy (2015/16) –

Jamie Vardy is an experienced striker who plays for Premier League club Leicester City. He is among the winners of the FWA Footballer of the Year award in the past decade. Former England forward earned the prestigious award after breaking Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s record by scoring in eleven consecutive league matches and leading Leicester City to their first EPL title in their history.

8. N’golo Kante (2016/17) –

N’golo Kante also broke a record and won a title to earn himself the FWA Footballer of the Year award. Furthermore, he helped Chelsea to win the EPL title in his debut season. In addition to that, he became the first outfield player after Eric Cantona to win the Premier League title consecutively with different clubs. Also, his performance in the league was the best and he still went on to win more individual awards.

9. Mohamed Salah (2017/18) –

Mohamed Salah is among the best players in the world. He is a deadly finisher, a skillful dribbler, and a speedster. However, he is among the winners of the FWA Footballer of the Year award. In his debut season with Liverpool, he won the Golden Boot after netting 32 goals in 36 league games. His performance earned him various individual accolades and he finished third in the 2018 Best FIFA Men’s Player award.

10. Raheem Sterling (2018/19) –

Raheem Sterling is the most valuable English player as of 2020. The Man City forward earned the FWA Footballer of the Year award after leading his club to their second league title in two years. However, his performance was among the best in the league and he won different rewards for it.

11. Jordan Henderson (2019/20) –

Jordan Henderson is among the best midfielders in the English Premier League. Therefore, he earned the FWA Footballer of the Year award after bringing the EPL title back to Anfield after 30 years. His performances were rewarded with various awards in the club and league.
