Today I will be taking you on a trip to discover the highest paid goalkeepers in the English premier league. For a goalkeeper to be paid a huge sum of money, he must have shown a great performance or be among the best goalkeepers in the league as well as the world. A goalkeeper is the last line of defense. He is paid to prevent the opposing team from scoring by intercepting and blocking shots on goal. There are some rules and regulations guarding the goalkeepers in football which distinguishes them from normal players. In football, only goalkeepers make use of their hands to save, throw, and catch the ball but it can only be done in their box.

10. Sergio Romero (Manchester United) – 70,616 pounds.

Sergio Romero is the third choice in the pecking order of goalkeepers in Manchester United behind loan returnee Dean Henderson and David De Gea. He is the most capped goalkeeper for Argentina in their history. In 2017, he kept a clean sheet as Manchester United defeated Ajax in the UEFA Europa League Final. Earlier last month, Romero expressed his dissatisfaction with being forced out of the team without being informed and some other Manchester United players also expressed their concern. After Man Utd decided to keep Dean Henderson who spent the last two seasons on loan at Sheffield United, he was given Sergio Romero’s spot which the Argentine was annoyed and disappointed about. Despite losing his spot to Dean Henderson, he is still among the highest-paid goalkeepers in EPL.

9. Alisson Becker (Liverpool) – 90,222 pounds.

Alisson Becker is Liverpool’s first-team goalkeeper and he is among the best goalkeepers in the world. In 2019, he was nominated as the Best FIFA Goalkeeper and he also won the Yashin Award, an award presented annually by France Football to the goalkeeper with the best performance. In his first season in the English Premier League, he won the Premier League Golden Gloves. The Brazilian shot-stopper is the ninth highest-paid goalkeeper in the English Premier League.

8. Rui Patricio (Wolverhampton Wanderers) – 100,246 pounds.

Prior to moving to the English Premier League, Rui Patricio played for Sporting CP from his youth till he forced his wat into the first team. He spent 12 years in the Portuguese club. He played at all youth levels for his country Portugal before making his debut in 2010. The Wolves shot-stopper has been a part of the English club’s overpowering ability in the EPL. Rui Patricio is the eighth highest-paid goalkeeper in EPL currently.

7. Hugo Lloris (Tottenham) – 100,246 pounds.

Hugo Lloris is a three-time winner of the UNFP Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year award. Lloris captains both Tottenham Hotspur and France national team. The Frenchman has been among the best goalkeepers in the English Premier League for a while now. He captained his club to reach the UEFA Champions League final in 2019 and his country to win the FIFA World Cup in Russia at 2018. Tottenham’s first-team goalkeeper is the seventh highest-paid goalkeeper in EPL.

6. Dean Henderson (Manchester United) – 100,246 pounds

After series of loan spells to different English clubs from 2016, he had his breakthrough season in 2019/20 featuring Premier league side Sheffield United. He returned to Manchester United ahead of the 2020/21 campaign and signed a long-term contract which would see him as a Manchester United player till June 2025. He immediately became the side’s second-choice goalkeeper and competition for David de Gea who underperformed last season. His new contract extension sets him among the highest-paid goalkeepers in EPL.

5. Bernd Leno (Arsenal) – 100,247 pounds.

Bernd Leno is Arsenal’s first-team goalkeeper, they signed him in 2018 from Bayer Leverkusen to settle their goalkeeping crisis. He also plays for the German national team. Leno is among the best goalkeepers in the Premier League. The German shot-stopper is the fifth highest-paid goalkeeper in the English Premier League.

4. Jordan Pickford (Everton) – 100,407 pounds.

Jordan Pickford featured for so many clubs on loan before his former club Sunderland sold to Everton after they relegated from the Premier league in 2017.  During his last season with Sunderland, he made some amazing saves which made him be shortlisted for the PFA Young Player of the Year award. He is the most expensive British goalkeeper of all time. He won Everton’s player of the season in his debut season. Pickford is the fourth highest-paid goalkeeper in the English Premier League.

3. Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester City) – 130,320 pounds.

Kasper Schmeichel is the son of former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel. The Danish goalkeeper is an academy product of Manchester City and Leicester City’s first-team goalkeeper. In 2012, he won his club’s player of the year award and player’s player of the year award after a wonderful season which saw him keep 17 clean sheets. In 2016, he helped Leicester City win their first-ever premier league title.  He is the third highest-paid goalkeeper in the EPL.

2. Kepa Arrizabalaga (Chelsea) – 150,369 pounds.

Kepa Arrizabalaga was Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper but has currently lost his place to Senegalese stopper Eduoard Mendy due to underperformance and repeated errors. He kept for Chelsea as they defeated Arsenal to win the UEFA Europa League in 2018. Kepa is the most expensive goalkeeper in the world and the second-highest-paid goalkeeper in the English Premier League.

1. David De Gea (Manchester United) – 375,923 pounds.

No other goalkeeper in the English Premier League earns more than David De Gea. He became the highest-paid goalkeeper last summer after putting pen to paper on a new deal. De Gea is among the best goalkeepers in the world. He has been in the club since 2012. The Spaniard is the first and only player to win the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Season award on four occasions.
